“Nothing To Do With The EU”
British authorities prevented Oksana Chelysheva, member of the Board of the Finnish-Russian Civic Forum (FINROSFORUM), from attending a major international human rights conference in Northern Ireland. Ms Chelysheva was due to deliver a keynote address on the situation in Russia’s North Caucasus at the Poisonous Legacies conference in Derry on 15 June 2013, but was stopped on arrival at London Stansted Airport.
Kansanedustajat Konttorin koukussa
Venäjän strategisten tutkimusten instituutti (RISI) järjestää Helsingissä “yhteistyökonferenssin”, johon alustajiksi on kutsuttu Aleksanteri-instituutin johtajan Markku Kivisen ohella liuta putinismin paikallisia propagandisteja ja juoksupoikia: Jon Hellevig, Peter Iiskola, Kyösti Kozlov ja Jyrki Leivonen. RISI ilmeisesti katsoi, että provokaattori Johan Bäckmanin sisällyttäminen suoraan ohjelmaan olisi karkottanut kaikki normaalit ja säädylliset ihmiset. Hämmentävää on se, että puhujiksi ovat kuitenkin suostuneet myös Putinin johtaman Yhtenäisen Venäjän sisarpuolueen kokoomuksen kansanedustajat Pertti Salolainen ja Kimmo Sasi. Diktatuurin kärpästen surina ei näytä häiritsevän kansanedustajiamme.
Winter Olympics in the Subtropics
Russian opposition leader Boris Nemtsov and Solidarity activist Leonid Martynyuk have published a report detailing allegations of rampant corruption in the preparations for the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi. Kerkko Paananen, Chairman of the Finnish-Russian Civic Forum (FINROSFORUM), translated the report into English, with help from Catherine Fitzpatrick at the excellent Interpreter Magazine. Stop Persecution of Civil Society in Russia!
The Steering Committee of the EU-Russia Civil Society Forum has issued a statement protesting the growing persecution of independent civil society organisations in Russia as a result of repressive legislation on “foreign agents.” The Forum cites the convictions meted out on two of its member organisations, the GOLOS Association and its regional partner, as well as the Kostroma Support Center for Civic Initiatives. The fourth NGO convicted as a “foreign agent” is the St Petersburg LGBT film festival, Side by Side. In all, the authorities have taken action against more than 40 NGOs, many of them members of the Forum.

Suomalais-venäläisen kansalaisfoorumin (FINROSFORUM) sääntömääräiset vuosikokoukset pidetään maanantaina 17.06.2013 klo 18:00 toimistohotelli Office Housessa (Bulevardi 2, 7. krs, Helsinki).
Tilaisuudessa valitaan yhdistykselle uusi hallitus, joka järjestäytyy samoissa tiloissa heti vuosikokousten jälkeen. Ohjelmassa lisäksi keskustelua FINROSFORUMin toiminnan kehittämisestä.

The Arkadia International Bookshop in Helsinki will host a discussion with the Russian environmental and opposition activist, Yevgenia Chirikova, on Tuesday, 28 May 2013, at 3pm.
Appeal for Solidarity with Levada Center
Academic freedom is under attack in Russia. Authorities have now targeted the independent research institute, Levada Center. On 15 May 2013, the prosecutor’s office of Moscow’s Savelovskaya District issued a warning to the institute, citing violations of Russia’s draconian new law on non-profit organisations.
