The Finnish-Russian Civic Forum (FINROSFORUM) promotes cooperation between the peoples of Finland and Russia by supporting civic initiatives for democracy, human rights, and free speech.

The Finnish-Russian Civic Forum (FINROSFORUM) will hold its fifth annual conference, FINROSFORUM 2011, in Helsinki on 10-11 December 2011. The themes of this year’s conference will be public participation in large-scale infrastructure projects and corruption in Russia. The programme consists of four panel discussions: The campaign against ”Gazprom Tower” in St Petersburg; the campaign to defend Khimki Forest near Moscow; the campaign against the Olympic construction projects in Sochi; and Russia’s system of corruption.

Guest speakers at the FINROSFORUM 2011 conference will include Olga Andronova and Elizaveta Napara of St Petersburg’s Spasi Piter movement, Yaroslav Nikitenko of the movement to defend Khimki Forest, Yulia Naberezhnaya and Mikhail Plotnikov of the Ecological Watch of North Caucasus, Lyubov Sobol of the RosPil anti-corruption project, and Olexi Pasyuk of the CEE Bankwatch Network.

Other guest speakers include Heidi Hautala, Finland’s Minister for International Development; Vadim Kononenko, Political Advisor to Finnish MEP Tarja Cronberg; Oksana Chelysheva, board member of FINROSFORUM; Birthe Weijola, Russia Coordinator of the Finnish Nature League; Katri Pynnöniemi, Researcher at the Finnish Institute of International Affairs; Rauno Sairinen, Professor of Environmental Policy at the University of Eastern Finland; Olga Ignatieva-Vanhanen, Board Member of FINROSFORUM; and Kerkko Paananen, Chairman of FINROSFORUM.

FINROSFORUM was established in Helsinki in January 2007 by a group of people concerned about the development of human rights and the erosion of democracy in Russia. Our organisation supports civic initiatives for democracy, human rights, and freedom of speech.

FINROSFORUM has held annual conferences and other public events with the participation of numerous human rights defenders and opposition activists from Russia as well as many civil society actors from outside Russia. Our fourth annual conference was held in July 2010.
