Face of Russian Civic Activism

The Finnish-Russian Civic Forum (FINROSFORUM) promotes cooperation between the peoples of Finland and Russia by supporting civic initiatives for democracy, human rights, and free speech.

Yevgenia Chirikova

The Arkadia International Bookshop in Helsinki will host a discussion with the Russian environmental and opposition activist, Yevgenia Chirikova, on Tuesday, 28 May 2013, at 3pm.

Ms Chirikova has become part of a broader movement acting as a spokesperson for groups and campaigns that are less visible. She has been part of ecological actions in the Sochi area where once-protected forests are being felled to develop facilities for the 2014 Winter Olympics.

Moreover, Ms Chirikova has raised her voice on the situation in the Khopyor region in central Russia where people peacefully protesting against the development of new private mines have been brutally beaten.

Entrance is free but a donation of 3 euros or more to fund the event is suggested and would be most welcome!
