The Finnish-Russian Civic Forum (FINROSFORUM) held its annual general meeting on 17 June 2013 in Helsinki. The meeting elected a new eight-member Board and a new Chairman for our organisation:
ELISABETH NORDGREN, Chairman, is a veteran journalist who worked for many years at Finland’s leading Swedish-language daily, Hufvudstadsbladet. She is Chairman of the Finnish Critics Association and former Board Member of Finnish PEN. Ms Nordgren is a Founding Member of FINROSFORUM.
MIKAEL STORSJÖ, Vice-Chairman, is a Finnish entrepreneur, journalist, and civic activist. He is a Board Member of Electronic Frontier Finland and of the Finnish Refugee Council. Mr Storsjö is known for his advocacy of the rights of the peoples of North Caucasus. He is a Founding Member of FINROSFORUM.
KERKKO PAANANEN, Information Secretary, is a long-time media analyst and trade union activist. Mr Paananen is a Founding Member of FINROSFORUM and has served at various positions in our organisation over several years.
OKSANA CHELYSHEVA, Board Member, is a journalist working for the Russian independent newspaper, Novaya Gazeta, Deputy Executive Director of the Helsinki-based Russian-Chechen Friendship Society, and Member of the Steering Committee of the EU-Russia Civil Society Forum. She has received several awards for her work in defence of human rights in Russia.
SUREN GAZARYAN, Board Member, is a member of the Board of the Russian environmental organisation, Environmental Watch on North Caucasus, and member of the Coordination Council of the Russian Opposition. Mr Gazaryan is a long-time member of the Russian liberal opposition party, Yabloko. He recently received political asylum in Estonia.
OLEG KOZLOVSKY, Board Member, is a Russian democracy and human rights activist, currently working in the US as a Fulbright scholar. He is Board Chairman of the Russian NGO, Vision of Tomorrow Foundation. Mr Kozlovsky was co-founder of the Oborona youth movement and the Solidarnost liberal democratic movement. In 2008, he received the Human Rights Award from Human Rights First.
SAMPO SAARI, Board Member, is a professional interpreter and a long-time active member of Amnesty International Finnish section and its Russia Group. A long-time member of FINROSFORUM and our Board, Mr Saari has previously served as Secretary of our organisation.
AGNETA STORSJÖ, Board Member, is a family therapist and psychological consultant and supervisor with a long career in Finland’s child protection services. She is Partner at the private therapy clinic, Reflektio. A long-time member of FINROSFORUM, Ms Storsjö has helped our organisation over the years in many ways.
